LICHTENVOORDE - De wereld van Joost Wichman stortte in elkaar. De geboren
BMX-er kreeg, dromend van zijn Olympische sport in 2008, te horen dat het beter
voor zijn rug was om te stoppen met fietscrossen. Een Europese titel en een
WK-ticket later voor de fourcross (4X) is de pijn grotendeels verdwenen.
In het Nieuw-Zeelandse Rotorua vindt deze week het WK mountainbike plaats.
Onderdeel van dit mondiale ?dikkebandentoernooi? is de fourcross, ook wel
4-Cross of 4X geheten. Met drie Nederlandse deelnemers morgen aan de start,

Joost Wichman: European 4 Cross Champ
In the last week of July the European 4x champs took place in Stollberg,
Germany. Cannondale-sponsored Jurg Meijer and Joost Wichman both qualified for
this race due to their good results in the World Cups. Even though Joost had
appendix surgery just three weeks prior, they both felt strong going into the
race.
Both Jurg and Joost made it to the finals together with Tshugg and Beaumont.
The final wasn't really exciting because Joost Wichman lead from the start till
the finish, becoming European champ. Jurg got a good gate but slipped in the

Joost Wichman Dutch National Elite Champion mountainbike 2007
The Dutch National Championships fourcross took place in Groningen. About 90 of
riders took the trip to the biggest mountain of Groningen to battle for the
National fourcross title.
After the qualification rounds there were only 64 riders left to compete in the
knock-out finals. There was no room anymore for mistakes. If you didn't cross
the finishline in a top 2 spot you were out, done and you could pack your bags.
Till the semi finals Joost won all his heats pretty easy. In the semi final he
was up to Jurg Meyer the defending champion from 2006. Meyer snapped the gate

Verslag Joost Wichman: UCI World Cup Finals in Maribor
Just one week after the worlds in Fort William everybody took the trip to
Maribor for the world cup finals. The track in Maribor was very long and
difficult. Lots of offcamber stuff
and a lot of roots... During the qualifications I made some small mistakes but
at the end I ended up in the top 10.
On saterday evening the finals were on. A lot of people had come to watch the
races, think about 15.000! Untill my semi's everything went the way it suppose
to go. I won all my races and made it pretty easy into the semis. In the semi
